Live the high life in Verbier

The pretty snow-capped peaks of Verbier have long been regarded as the epicentre of Swiss ski-culture. An abundance of snow and an exciting mixture of slopes combined with lively nightlife and convenient access to Geneva have secured the resort's popularity over the years. However, a recent spate of high-profile royal visits, swanky bar openings and a boom in property prices now ensure that Verbier really is the place to see and be seen.

The resort

Verbier boasts in excess of 400 km of ski runs, which are accessed by almost 100 ski lifts. The terrain is suitably demanding for experienced skiers and the views from the summit of Mont Fort are nothing short of mind-blowing: on a clear day you can take in a stunning panorama stretching towards Mont Blanc in the distance. The high altitudes mean that snow is wonderfully abundant - you will certainly not be disappointed. The resort itself centres about the Médran, which leads onto the Place Centrale. Here you will find a range of high-end shops, restaurants and luxury boutiques, as well as plenty of upmarket bars and nightspots for after hours.

Buying property in Verbier

For those wishing to invest in property for sale in the Swiss Alps, Verbier is undoubtedly a highly sought-after area. Properties in the "Belgravia of the Alps", however, come with a price tag to match and the current boom in sales shows no sign of slowing. Indeed, the average entry price of a chalet here now stands at a cool £4 million. For those with more limited funds, the neighbouring resorts offer an attractive alternative: much cheaper, often quieter and still on the doorstep of the fantastic slopes and attractions of the main resort.

La Tzoumaz

The delightful little village of La Tzoumaz, for instance, is only one lift ride away from the heady pleasures of Verbier and has fantastic access to the entire Four Valleys region. A decade or so ago, La Tzoumaz was simply somewhere you passed through on your way to Verbier but now the area is quietly making a name for itself. Think roaring fires, cosy glasses of Glühwein, family-friendly restaurants and quirky shops. It's definitely an area to consider when looking for property for sale in Switzerland!
