5 things to do in Val D'Isere this summer

Val D’Isere is a great summertime holiday destination, boasting spectacular views, great weather and a huge choice of activities to take part in. But throughout the summer, you’ll also find lots of exciting events taking place, from big parties to gigs, shows and guided walks.

There’s lots more information on the official website about what’s taking place this year, but we’ve picked out five of the most unmissable events in Val D’Isere this summer:

Bastille Day, July 13th

France celebrates its national day in style, with fireworks and partying until the early hours. It’s marked on the anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, a turning point in the French Revolution. In Val D’Isere, you can join locals in celebrating with a bar, dancing and fireworks in the Tourist Office square.

Tour de France, July 26th

France’s biggest sporting event passes through Val D’Isere each year, and has done for more than a hundred years. This year the 19th stage will pass by on July 26th around 2.20pm at the Iseran pass and 3pm in La Daille, and seeing the peloton pass by is a real sight to behold. Roads will be closed, but lifts and cable cars will be operating for free.

Traditional Summer Fete, July 27th & 28th

One of Val D’Isere’s oldest traditionals, the summer fete is organised each year by the ‘Lu Pic a Bouic’ association. From 3pm, children can enjoy fun and games, while adults can return after dark for live music and fireworks from 9pm, in the Tourist Office square.

Savoyard Fair L’Avaline, August 3rd and 4th

Another traditional fair, this time more focused on local crafts and produce, this one is to be found on Olympique Avenue. Live music from alpine musicians and marching bands and free activities for children make it a fun way to spend an afternoon if you’re holidaying in Val D’Isere.

Guided tour of the village, August 20th

This free tour takes place regularly throughout the summer, and tells visitors the story of how Val D’Isere has transformed from a small alpine village to a world famous ski resort. The tour meets in front of the Tourist Office at 10am.
