Now is the time to get ski fit....
Getting in shape for the summer months is all well and good, but for serious skiers, autumn and winter is when it’s really important to be fit. If you can turn up to the slopes at the top of your game, you’ll get much more enjoyment from your ski trip.
Cardio
One of the easiest and most important ways to get ski-slope ready is to boost your cardio fitness. Skiing is a high-energy sport, and the fitter you are in the first place, the better you’ll fare.
To increase your fitness levels, just up your activity levels. Even a brisk walk can raise the heart rate, but better still go for a jog or get on your bike.
Building muscle
As an all-body sport, it’s also important to build muscles before you ski - luckily, it’s easy to do this at home. Squats are a great way to build muscles in your quads and are easy to do at home. Do a few when you get out of bed in the morning, and a few before you go to sleep at night, and your muscles will be stronger in no time.
Core strength & balance
Your core, too, is important when you’re skiing, and there’s no better way to build your core than with yoga and pilates. It won’t hurt to learn a few stretches too, for warming up and cooling down before and after hitting the slopes.
