History, heritage and great skiing in Serre Chevalier

For a picturesque location, great skiing and reliable snowfall, it’s hard to go wrong with Serre Chevalier, one of the gems of the French Alps. Located in the Hatues-Alpes department of southeastern France, it’s part of the large ski area of Grand Serre Chevalier, offering a vast skiing area.

Skiers and snowboarders of all abilities will find runs to suit, with over 250km of ski slopes accessible, and a great mix of green, blue, red and black runs - and a clever new lift pass means you can pick and choose your skiing days at will.

The innovative Holiski pass available for the Grand Serre Chevalier ski areais described as offering an à la carte skiing experience, allowing skiers to save money and pay only for the days that they ski. Each day of skiing is priced between €30 and €51.50 depending on whether it’s low-season or high-season, offering a simple and cost-effective way to manage your ski pass.

Each of the villages which comprises the Serre Chevalier resort has its own unique character and amenities, but the resort as a whole is well known for its family-friendly atmosphere and its many excellent ski schools and childcare options, perfect for letting Mum and Dad get some quality time together on the slopes.

There are few parts of the Alps that don’t boast breathtaking scenery, but not many resorts can claim a UNESCO World Heritage site to visit. The town of Briançon was fortified by Vauban, a famous engineer and architect, on the directions of King Louis XIV of France, and these fortifications were listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008. Not just impressive, these city walls are also architecturally stunning, and well worth a visit if you’re taking a break from the slopes.

Of course, no ski resort would be complete without a vibrant apres-ski scene and plenty of opportunity to indugle in local specialities like raclette and fondue, and Serre Chevalier is no exception, with a wide selection of cafes, bars and restaurants on offer, from Michelin starred venues to rustic local restaurants.

Serre Chevalier really is a resort that has it all, offering the perfect base for skiing, exploring, spending time with the family and exploring the local area.
