Looking forward to Spring in the French Alps

Wherever you are in the world, the first signs of spring are a welcome sight, whether it’s melting snow, flowers pushing up from the hard earth or spotting your first lamb of the season.

The French Alps are no different, and spring is a lovely time to visit, with the vibrant colours of the Alpine pastures at their most spectacular against bright blue skies and the patches of snow that remain higher up in the peaks.

One of the best arguments for visiting the Alps at this time of year is that you’ll find many resorts much quieter. With the bustle of the ski season over and the peak summer season not yet arrived, you’ll feel like you have this beautiful part of the world all to yourself. That’s not the only benefit of visiting at a quieter time of year either - you should find travel to and from the main hubs is much cheaper outside of high season.

It’s also a great time of year to take a hiking holiday, before warmer temperatures set in and make trekking in the heat of the day a less tempting proposition. Of course during the more changeable spring months it’s extra important to stay alert to changing conditions in the mountains, but the extra planning is well worth it for the quiet trails and spectacular scenery.

Spring can also be a great time to enjoy other outdoor activities in the Alps. It’s the very best time of year for rafting, when melt water turns placid rivers and streams into furious thundering channels of rapids, the perfect way to get your adrenaline pumping.
