The traditional long established ski resort and all year round town centre of Chamonix steeped in Alpine tradition and one of the oldest ski resorts in France, at an altitude of 1035m is perfectly located at the foot of Europe’s largest mountain, the iconic Mont Blanc at 4807m. Offering some of the some of the world’s steepest, most scenic and challenging high altitude skiing, the bustling attractive town full of atmosphere has a car free coble lined centre with old buildings and over 100 restaurants throughout the resort to choose from.
With stunning views wherever you are, the town that incorporates several satellite villages spreads for miles along the Chamonix glacial Valley. The skiing spread over 5 separate mountains Le Brevent, Grands Montets, Le Tour, L’Aiguille du Midi (ungroomed) and La Flege which is linked by lift. These 5 areas connected by ski shuttle bus, provides huge variety and skiing for all levels of ability.
With practically all the slopes above the treeline, the ski domain itself comprises 115km of piste to an altitude of 3840m and is made up of 12% Green, 42% Blue, 32% Red and 15% Black all serviced by 42 lifts. The world famous L’Aiguille du Midi Cable within walking distance from the centre of Chamonix, provides a spectacular ride and holds the record of the highest cable car in the world taking passengers to 3842m.
For those not looking to ski there is plenty of other things to do including a Sports Centre with indoor heated pool and watersides, fitness centre with sauna and Turkish bath, husky and sleigh rides, paragliding, ice skating, Casino, Cinema, winter walks and a diverse selection of shops and bars to choose from.
In the summer the Chamonix Valley is home to some 350km superbly maintained mountain hiking trails providing ideas for over 160 different itineraries both at lower Valley level and those at higher altitude to suit all levels. It is also home to the 18-hole Chamonix Golf Course designed by the world renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Senior.
Thanks to the awe inspiring Mont Blanc, Dru and Frendo Spur to name a few, Chamonix has always been a huge draw for climbers of every level. Prestigious North and South faces as well as easier rock faces for amateurs, climbers are spoilt for choice.
With transfer times of just 1 hour 30 mins from Geneva, Chamonix is easy to reach for weekend getaways or for the longer holiday taken in your property.
