At an altitude of 2,300 metres, Val Thorens is both the highest resort in the 3 Valleys, but also has the honour of being the highest resort in Europe. This means it is snow sure from November right through to May. This purpose built resort, sits right at the head of the Belleville Valley, in amongst a horseshow of beautifully dramatic peaks, offering outstanding views, which are hard to beat.
All levels of skiers are welcome here, from very beginners through to seasoned experts. Val Thorens is extremely well linkedm into a huge network of slopes and trails, linking into Meribel and Courchevel, as wel as its neighbouring fourth valley, the Maurrienne.
Offering 140km of pistes alone, Val Thorens really has something for everyone and makes the ideal base to explore the huge expanse of the 3 Valleys and its additional 600km of ski area to explore. There are lovely blue runs, lots of sizeable red runs for the more confident skiers, as well as those runs offering more of a challenge to seasoned skiers.
Val Thorens has had over the years the reputation of not being the most attractive of ski resorts, with ugly apartment blocks tending to be seen as a blot on the landscape, however over recent years Val Thorens has made serious effort to develop its village and reputation and has emerges as a much more attractive and elegant resort. One of the many stand out things about Val Thorens, is the variety of bars and restaurants that are available, catering for a varied range of clientele from those looking for lively apres ski, to those with families wanting a more relaxed way to spend time off the slopes. All tastes and budgets are catered for, in a resort that has quickly becomes famed for its warm welcome.
