Set in the heart of the Maurienne Valley, the authentic and pretty, Savoyard village of Orelle made up of 10 delightful little hamlets, full of heritage and beauty, provides the secret gateway to the largest ski domain in the world that of the 600km 3 Valleys, thanks to the new Orelle cable car which opened in 2021, taking passengers to Cimes Carron at 3200m above Val Thorens in just a matter of minutes.
Formerly an agricultural village and now a vacation destination, the narrow streets, hidden alleys, baroque church and pretty traditional houses with slate roofs and window boxes that make up the calm, peaceful and beautiful surroundings is a perfect place place for sports enthusiasts both during the winter and summer.
With the brand new 10 seater cable car ascending from 880m to 3200m in just 19 minutes from the beginning of December to the beginning of May depositing skiers and boarders into to the 3 Valleys during the winter, in the summer, Orelle is the perfect base for cyclists thanks to its position in the heart of the Maurienne Valley.
With access to 800km of road cycling, from here you connect into the largest network in the world that includes 13 of the famous mountain passes tackled by the Tour de France every year. While for mountain bike lovers, here you are spoilt for choice with numerous FFC labelled mountain bike trails to choose from in Orelle accessible by ski lift during the summer months.
Complete with ski rental shop, ski school, supermarket, bar and several restaurants, St Michel de Maurienne is just 6km away which includes a Carrefour supermarket. While St Jean de Maurienne only 20 minutes by car provides an extensive array of additional infrastructure including a wide selection of restaurants to pick from.
With five airports to choose from to access the resort, there is plenty of choice:
- Turin 1 hour 35 minutes
- Chambery 1 hour 5 mins
- Grenoble 1 hour 50 minutes
- Lyon 1 hour 50 minutes
- Geneva 1 hour 50 minutes
Even Milan airport is just 2 hours and 45 minutes away, for those wanting a city break at the same time.
Within the town of St Jean de Maurienne, there is also the future International train station under construction. Connecting Paris – Lyon – Chambery – St Jean de Maurienne – Turin - Milan, it is Europe's largest infrastructure project.
Planned for completion by 2030, once finished, from Paris to St Jean will take just 3 hours. We therefore anticipate over the next few years demand and property prices will continue to increase.
